We Created a Wake

Just before dawn on Saturday at 6am we untied the dock lines at South Shore Yacht Club. As we left Milwaukee our boat SEASONS created a wake. We hope to cross our wake a little under a year from now as we start The Great Loop Trip. Our travel south on Lake Michigan was a wonderful ride with light wind and flat water. This leg of our journey is all to familiar to Dorothy and I. We both have raced sailboats in Chicago over the years and made this delivery many times before. This familiarity is a good thing because it allowed us to calm our the nerves about starting our adventure.

The trawler ran great. I had a minor transmission oil leak at fitting and a bit of water coming in a packing gland both of which I was able to tighten up. I completed a couple of electronic projects on the boat. We arrived in Chicago at 3pm, a 9 hour trip over 83 miles. Columbia Yacht Club welcomed us at their dock and we are settled in for the night. The yacht club is very unique in that it is a retired Car Ferry ship. After Dinner and a drink upstairs we are already making new friends, Gretchen and Bradley.

Our plan for tomorrow is to enter the Calumet river on the south side of Chicago and start towards the Mighty Mississippi.
